The Christmas spirit comes from small acts of kindness. That’s why we’ve put together 12 festive and easy ideas for how you can help out through Commu. Most take less than an hour, and none of them require any particular experience. If everyone chooses just one, together we’ll be spreading plenty of Christmas cheer! Even small gestures go a long way: clearing snow from the driveway for a neighbour, spending time with someone who lives alone, or buying an advent calendar for a child.

Help close to home:

1. Offer to clear snow. For many elderly or mobility-impaired people, snow in the garden and in front of the door is the biggest struggle in December. Shovel away this worry!

2. Pop to the shop or pharmacy on someone else’s behalf. When you’re out shopping yourself, take your neighbour’s shopping list with you. It’s both efficient and makes their day.

3. Help carry a Christmas tree or decorations. Picking up a Christmas tree or lifting boxes down from the loft is a brilliant way to do your bit for the neighbourhood this Christmas. Decorating together with someone is also cosier than alone.

4. Accompany someone to a Christmas event. Christmas concerts, carol singing or Christmas markets are more enjoyable when experienced together.

Give, lend, share:

5. Get an advent calendar for a child. Offer an advent calendar to a child from a family in need. First, check what sort of calendar they’d like and whether the child has any allergies. A month’s worth of joy!

6. Donate any unwanted items in good condition to a new home. Toys, winter clothes and outdoor gear are needed by many families right now. Let Commu know what you have to give away.

7. Lend out your party tableware or extra chairs. Not everyone has ten plates or room for extra chairs. Lending saves money and helps the environment at the same time.

8. Bake an extra trayful. When you’re baking Christmas tarts or gingerbread biscuits, share some with a neighbour or a family for whom it will bring a bit of Christmas cheer. Food and item donations on Commu are facilitated through strong identity verification, making it safe for both parties.

Remote support:

9. Make a Christmas phone call. Many people spend Christmas alone. You can offer someone company over the phone via Commu. Even a half-hour conversation can make someone’s Christmas special.

10. Help set up a video call. Show someone how to make a video call, so they can take part in Christmas festivities remotely.

11. Write a Christmas card. A handwritten card warms everyone’s heart. Offer to write a card on Commu, or ask if you can send a delightful surprise card to a friend of a Commu user.

12. Join in on a charity’s Christmas event. Christmas parties, charity collections and food distributions all need a helping hand. Browse Commu’s volunteer opportunities and sign up for an evening.

Commu already has over 150,000 users, and together they’ve carried out over 60,000 good deeds. This Christmas, your deed could be the next one.
